Pre-departure Adventures in Washington

Well, here it is. My first blog post.

Alex and I are just about getting ready to head off to Germany. 3 more days and the Adventure begins. It's hard to believe that we left Greencastle more than two weeks ago. Then again, we have already had many adventures in Washington as Alex developed a thorough interest in the 'olden times' - particularly Abraham Lincoln. This bodes well for sightseeing in Europe, I hope. We have made 2 separate trips to the Lincoln Memorial, taken in the Jefferson Memorial (Alex: Lincoln died sitting down, Jefferson died standing up - 3-year old logic, I guess), seen the Presidential Chopper in front of the White House, touched the moon rock at the Air and Space Museum, admired a great show at the National Building Museum, went swimming at the local rec center, made the annual pilgrimage to Great Falls, saw an enchanted marionette version of the Nutcracker, to mention just a few of our activities in the last week or two.

Christmas with the family is now behind us, most of the yummy cookies are gone, the needles are starting to fall off the tree and the new toys have been thoroughly investigated. Alex got a few things that won't make the trip (particularly the new trampoline!), but I'm hoping to stash a few surprises for him in our luggage.

Two more days of organizing, packing, last-minute shopping, canceling Netflix, ATT wireless etc. and we'll be on the way. If you want to call me in this time zone, now's the time. Otherwise, see you the other side.
